Creative Tangents

Meet some new characters I've been working on!

I promise that my creative process makes sense... somehow. The hubby was flabbergasted as I was trying to explain these three and their story. He wants me to pick one project and work on it until it's done. I think I would if that's how my brain worked.

Right now, in the wings, I've got my Normal - Not Normal comic, Good Game Anxiety the graphic novel as well as being 3 chapters into a YA traditional prose novel. They each serve their own unique purpose, and someday, I hope I'll have an agent and will get one of them, or something entirely different published.

Normal - Not Normal allows me to focus on sequential storytelling and fitting a narrative into 8 panels, 4 of a normal story beginning and 4 of the twisted not normal ending. It's a different way to conceptualize a story. My brain has to focus on the important details of the story and clearly communicate them in both the visuals and the words in the panels. Ultimately, working on this comic will help develop the skills I need as I work towards creating the graphic novel.

The YA novel allows me to focus on narrative storytelling, and that's an important skill I have to be working on if I ever want to be a published author. This tale may never go beyond the few select alpha readers that have gotten a sneak peak, but I enjoy the characters and it's fun.

I started to think, that if Good Game Anxiety isn't going to be marketable until I've got something more traditionally marketable going, I could continue to build those necessary skills by working on a more traditional graphic novel. Why not focus on the middle school years of the characters I've already grown attached to in the YA novel? The hubby thinks I'm jumping to making Avengers before making Iron Man 1, 2, & 3 and all the other stories that came before creating a whole cinematic universe. Maybe... the more I try to figure out how my brain works the less I know!
